Share Accomplishments, Enter Awards and Tiger Trust

Thanks to local surety associations, private project owners and lenders are recognizing the protections that surety bonds provide on their construction projects. Subcontractors and suppliers are shielded from nonpayment. Legislative and public offices are more informed about the negative aspects of bond waivers, increased bond thresholds, and subcontractor default insurance.

Awards It’s easy to see the impact local surety associations make. SIO’s Awards for Excellence in Surety Bond Promotion and Tiger Trust recognize your efforts to promote contract surety bonds and educate those involved in construction about the benefits and protections surety bonds provide. These awards also are an opportunity to share your successes and accomplishments with the surety industry and motivate a colleague or peer to get involved and make a difference.

The deadline is February 8, 2008, to submit nominations for the Awards for Excellence in Surety Bond Promotion and Tiger Trust for promotional activities conducted in 2007.

SIO Launches Online LSA Handbook

To provide LSAs with a central source of information related to development, stewardship, and expansion of their associations, SIO and SFAA have developed an online LSA Handbook.

This Handbook is intended to help the LSA leadership as officers plan and implement programs for their members. It is not meant to provide legal advice on any issue, and each LSA should consult counsel on matters such as incorporation, tax status, antitrust issues, etc.

Designed to view online or download as a Microsoft Word document, the Handbook contains:

• History
• LSA Directory & Update Form
• LSA Web sites
• Administrative & Legal Issues
• Membership
• Program Development
• Marketing & Public Relations
• Best Practices

SIO will update the Handbook regularly. Be sure to add http://www.sio.org/Surety/lsa_handbook/index.html to your Web browser “Favorites” and forward this link to your members.

Comments and suggestions for additional information are always welcome. Please contact SIO at (202) 686-7463 or sio@sio.org with ideas.
