PRIMA AND SIO TEAM TO OFFER RISK MANAGEMENT LEARNING TOOL

SEPTEMBER 22, 2003, WASHINGTON, DC – The Surety Information Office (SIO) announces a partnership with The Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) to provide PRIMA members with direct access to SIO’s free Surety Bonds for Public Construction CD.

The CD, developed specifically for public agencies, contains narrated PowerPoint® presentations that explain the value and benefits of contract surety bonds for public works contracts. Users also can access and print many of SIO’s brochures and booklets on contract surety bonds. The educational CD-ROM meets risk transfer and bonding requirements of PRIMA members’ Risk Managers’ Core Competencies.

“Protecting taxpayer dollars, which fund most public construction projects, is a top priority for public owners,” says Marla McIntyre, Executive Director of SIO. “This CD educates them on why surety bonds are required and explains the surety bonding process.”

PRIMA members will be able to order free copies of the Surety Bonds for Public Construction CD from a dedicated area of the SIO Web site, www.sio.org

SIO was formed in 1993 to disseminate information about the benefits of contract surety bonding in private and public construction. Located in Washington, DC, SIO is supported by the National Association of Surety Bond Producers (NASBP) [surety agents and brokers] and The Surety Association of America (SAA) [surety companies]. Surety bonding is a careful, rigorous, and professional process in which surety companies prequalify contractors and then assure project owners that these contractors are capable of performing the contract and will pay certain subcontractors and suppliers associated with the project.
